BUILDING CHARACTERS THAT WILL ABLE TO PREVENT BULLYING
Presentation of material by workshop resource persons - Mohammad Iqbal, Ph.D
Nowadays it is rampant among students, that they often show deviant behavior and moral damage from mild to severe. An example that often occurs is violence (bullying) among friends.
To prevent bullying in the campus environment, the UMB Directorate of Student Affairs held a bullying prevention and handling workshop with the theme "Building Character Through Effective Communication in Reducing Bullying in Campus Life". This event was held on December 22, 2020 and was attended by semester 1, 3 and 5 students.
Bullying is repeated physical, psychological, social, or verbal attacks by peers on someone who is lower or weaker for their own satisfaction. This kind of behavior shows the fragility of the character of educational institutions as well as the unfavorable environmental conditions.
"This environment is an important variable, if they were friends with a bully, they become a bully as well," said the workshop source - Mohammad Iqbal, Ph.D. In order not to become a victim of bullying, we must build a child into a braver character, be taught the ability to be firm in saying no, and even learn martial arts.
Iqbal saw that children who were victims of bullying had general characteristics of being quiet and timid. This unfortunately can happen because of wrong parenting. "Maybe because they are always scolded, humiliated. That is what make these children vulnerable to becoming victims", concluded Iqbal.
