Going the extra mile for the university to hit the ground
I take this special and, Insya Allah, blessed opportunity to ask all the civitas academica to praise the Almighty God, Allah Subhanaanhu wa Ta’aala, for His blessings now that we can live in His guidance and are endowed with wellbeing and good health.
Mercu Buana University entered the year 2017 with an outstanding achievement as it managed to obtain the ‘A” accreditation from the National Accreditation Body for High Learning Institutions ( BAN-PT)—yet a remarkable notion for the university and a mission to accomplish so as to prove its social undertakings.
It is for sure that as a learning institution upon which the foundation of Indonesian human resources development is rested, a university is faced with even greater challenges. Mercua Buana, therefore, is totally aware of higher expectations placed on its shoulders.
Rapid technology advancement taking place all these years has affected almost all aspects of life, along with complexities brought with it. It is to say that unstable global and national economy packed with alarming unemployment rate and social turmoil requires our immediate response.
We have to fully understand that the national economic growth is projected at 5.1%. This only means that there will be a mere 1.2 to 1.5 million workforces absorbed and still we face a wide gap given the high unemployment rate at the moment.
Against this backdrop that the government, through the Manpower Ministry, has come with the so called National Integrated Apprenticeship Program involving 2.648 companies to accelerate labor’s competency. This fits Mercu Buana’s arrangement to have all its students equipped with apprenticeship experience.
Other than that Mercu Buana University has as well understood that research and technology innovations can bring solutions to the many problems faced by the society, taking into account the Research-Technology and Higher Education Ministry’s policy on the downstream side of research (hilirisasi) and priority on research.
Just within this direction that Mercu Buna is stimulating research works among lecturers and students. Going beyond, the university has introduced research group models so as to focus on results of research and to follow up those already in place.
This way Mercu Buana, hopefully, can come with solutions for its surrounding and dedicate its existence to the life—the true spirit of bringing the university to hit the ground.
